Top Men's Fashion Trends 2024

The 2024 season promises to be exciting for men's fashion. There is a new focus on reinventing classic pieces, embracing new generations, and breaking barriers from the past. From the trend of very short shorts to the new '90s versatility of vests and the resurgence of tweed. We start the year 2024 by exploring phenomena such as the art of crochet, double-breasted jackets, and the resurgence of men's Bermuda shorts with the arrival of spring.

We dive fully into the men's fashion trends of 2024.

Men's Shorts. But like, really short.

For Spring/Summer 2024, brands like Prada have taken the shorts trend to new heights (literally).

At Prada, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons have introduced high-waisted shorts that leave most of the thigh exposed, establishing this trend as definitive. Now, shorts are sliding up to the thigh in men's fashion. The trend of micro-shorts is making a strong comeback. Brands like OAMC offer shorts made from a luxurious blend of silk and wool in dark tones.

Burberry and Gucci, under the creative direction of Daniel Lee and Sabato de Sarno, respectively, now embrace a sensual approach in which shorts highlight the beauty of the male figure.

The message is clear: very short shorts are here to stay.

The '90s in full swing: the branded men's vest makes a comeback.

Men's vests have returned to the forefront of men's fashion, going beyond their traditional role as a middle layer. Designers offer vests in various shapes and sizes, reinventing how they are worn.

Gucci and Saint Laurent combine vests with suit trousers and jeans, reminiscent of the 1990s style. Daniel Lee, creative director of Burberry, advocates for vests with minimal fabric on the sides, offering a sleek and modern look. The versatility of vests makes them a must-have in your wardrobe.

The art of the knit.

Knitwear is gaining ground exponentially in men's fashion, adding texture, silhouette, and craftsmanship to outfits. For example, tweed, once a practical fabric for field workers, has found its place on the runway and in the contemporary man's wardrobe. Various brands are incorporating knitting in different thicknesses in their collections, emphasising the role of oversized coats and thick-cut shirts. These knitwear ensembles offer a blend of classic and contemporary styles, providing a unique and refined look.

Brands like Extreme Cashmere embrace fully knitted pieces in cashmere, including perfect t-shirts for a summer day. Coats from OAMC, Gucci, and Bottega Veneta men showcase the craftsmanship of these houses in knitting.

Loewe men under Jonathan Anderson has successfully merged the craftsmanship of knitting with graphic arts, launching models in never-before-seen colours aimed at a young and creative audience.

The centrepiece of it all: men's tailoring.

The suit jacket, often referred to as a blazer in English, remains the essential piece in the contemporary wardrobe, both for men and women. Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Canali, and Jacquemus present jackets with single or double-breasted designs, with extra-large, open, and loose silhouettes, offering a relaxed and elegant look.

Isabel Marant men pairs these pieces with sweatshirts, adding a touch of modernity to the sophistication of the jackets. Maison Margiela and Loewe opt for a modern version of a classic piece. The suit jacket continues to be a strong presence.

The underlying philosophy: unisex clothing.

In recent times, men's clothing has opened up to a less restrictive way of dressing. Women's clothing, at one point, enjoyed a wide and diverse wardrobe, while men's clothing seemed to be stuck in a constant cycle of collections with fewer options.

Currently, with the rise of branded bags for men (which have become more than a passing trend), men's fashion in 2024 is experiencing a new chapter with greater freedom and a diverse range of options.

With brands like Extreme Cashmere leading the way, and Loewe men and Saint Laurent celebrating androgyny in different aspects, men today can find a much wider range of options than just a decade ago.
