Ben Gorham, founder of Byredo, drew inspiration from his personal connection to Africa—particularly his father’s travels and the time he spent living there—to create Bal d’Afrique as both an imaginary journey and a tribute to the rich cultural influence of the African continent on dance, art, and music. This reinterpreted composition, which intensifies the gourmand facet of Bal d’Afrique, highlights the contrast between vibrant lightness and tempting depth, offering a richer and more addictive experience. Notes of bergamot, lemon, and blackcurrant lend it a bold liveliness, blending into the sweetness of praline, musks, and violet to conclude with spectacular base notes of cedar, vetiver, and warm black amber.
