Article: A Technical Spring

A Technical Spring

By the end of last year, we included functional designs and technical materials among the trends that would continue to grow in the near future. For Autumn/Winter 2019 we have seen it in the men's and women's fashion shows of some of our favorite houses, like Prada or Jil Sander.

But far from being only a trend, the shift towards utility and the use of fabrics developed for outdoor activities responds to current needs, highlighting the keys of functional design: form and function.

In-house favorites like Stone Island or Moncler revolve around this idea (form follows function - a concept originally associated with modernist architecture and industrial design during the 20th century), but today this approach is not limited to outdoors and sportswear companies.

Looking ahead to spring, one of the most weather-changing seasons of the year, technical garments become even more attractive by providing all-day comfort and protection from intermittent rains, temperature changes and all the climatological variations that often overcomplicate dressing options.

Sartorial pieces reinterpreted using waterproof and breathable fabrics, trekking-inspired sneakers or nylon accessories to carry everyday essentials are some of which we will undoubtedly continue to see in coming seasons.

To embrace spring changes without compromising style, here are some of our favorite options from the world's leading luxury and fashion designers.
