SACAI WOMEN’S CLOTHING

Since 1999, Sacai women’s clothing has redefined the limits of prêt-à-porter from its base in Tokyo. Founded by Chitose Abe, the brand begins with recognisable forms only to deconstruct, rebuild and transform them into something unexpected and new. The brand was born after Abe’s time at Comme des Garçons, a clear influence in her early work. However, it didn’t take long before she established her own voice. Her vision, experimental and hybrid, means each Sacai piece holds an internal tension between the classic and the new. Always moving between the functional and the conceptual. Abe continues to lead the creative direction and holds full ownership of the company. This independence allows her to preserve a radical and consistent identity.

The world of Sacai women’s clothing is built on complex pattern-making. Within a single garment, opposing fabrics coexist: knit with sheer gauze, thick cotton with transparency. The silhouette is never static or rigid. It folds, cuts and expands toward new possibilities. It transforms, and in doing so, transforms the wearer. These garments are not presented as fixed objects, but as forms in constant evolution.

What is Sacai clothing like?

Each Sacai design challenges the conventional idea of what a garment is: it often feels like several pieces layered into one. The Sacai AW25 collection, the first one we welcomed in our stores, exemplified this internal language, with even more elaborate constructions. Layers, zippers, pleats and unexpected overlays.

Sacai prêt-à-porter is consciously adapted to daily life. These pieces are not reserved solely for special occasions. They blur the line between formal and everyday dressing. They work with neutral staples and technical footwear, or even more classic pieces, generating a contrast that feels both refined and desirable.

Is Sacai a luxury brand?

Sacai is a contemporary luxury label. Sacai fashion does not follow traditional industry conventions. Its constant innovation and international collaborations place it firmly within the landscape of contemporary luxury. The brand is part of a conceptual luxury segment, alongside names like Comme des Garçons and Loewe.

Is Sacai a Japanese brand?

Sacai is a Japanese brand with headquarters in Tokyo, though its women’s and men’s collections have been shown in Paris since 2009. Its Japanese identity comes through in its meticulous attention to detail, artisanal sensibility, and ability to blend tradition with ongoing experimentation. This fusion has made Sacai prêt-à-porter a global reference in textile innovation.

Beyond ready-to-wear, Sacai has gained worldwide recognition through collaborations with urban heritage brands like Nike and Carhartt WIP. The Sacai x Nike capsules merge Abe’s conceptual vision with the energy of everyday streetwear, while Sacai x Carhartt elevates workwear into a sophisticated, experimental proposal worthy of Paris’s major runways.

An intimate journey: Sacai A to Z

The Sacai A to Z book offers a complete and personal look into Chitose Abe’s creative universe. With over 200 photographs, critical essays and an alphabetical format exploring her influences and process, the publication cements Sacai’s place as one of today’s most multidimensional fashion houses. From her early days alongside Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garçons to her present work, the book reveals how Abe has built an unmistakable aesthetic of her own.

Sacai women’s clothing collections are available at OTTODISANPIETRO. In-store, online, and on our mobile app.
